Solid, reliable (so far) and great fun.Nov 11, 2011

The initial out-of-box experience is not totally positive on this toy. In fact, it's downright frustrating, as your child (and you) try to learn how to control the helicopter and get it flying and turning the way you want it. But in a day or two, your 9-year old will be in complete control and able to maneuver down the hall or around the room, and you will be trying to shoot him down from the base station guns. To actually have the helicopter and the base-station gun shoot each other is another challenge entirely.
In a few days, we've banged the helicopter into just about anything you can imagine and it doesn't do any serious damage, nor does it receive any.
One thing: 11 AA batteries... WOW! Be prepared for that. Also, it's rather annoying that you have to put 3 in one of the devices. I like to use re-chargeables, and don't normally keep sets of 3 of those around. Minor annoyance. After 3 days of intense playing, the first set of Energizers we put in are still going strong.

My 7 yr old grandson loves it!Dec 05, 2011
By H. N. Gibson Bought this at Target. The birthday money my grandson collected was burning a hole in his piggy bank, so we agreed to let him pick one toy of his choice. At first he wanted an easy to fly rc plane, then this caught his eye. I was a little worried that it would be frustrating for him as I felt he might not have the motor skills for the light control touch a mini helicopter requires. At first it looked like I was right, but after about an hour he was flying it quite well. The little heli is fairly sturdy in spite of its' fragile appearance, and survived numerous crashes during his learning phase. It is great that the gun tower has an auto mode, otherwise he would have me playing against him for hours on end (and he cheats)!

Fantastic; wonderful improvement over previous helicopter toysDec 29, 2011
By Brian Warren While this toy is really fun, that's not at all what amazes me about it. The real achievement here is the stability, ease of use, and durability of the helicopter itself. For a toy that is used (intensively) by our 11 and 6 year-old kids that is really crucial. I couldn't be more impressed and pleased with this set and won't be going back to AirHogz-style helicopters again.
We have gone through several other RC helicopters over the last year or two and they have all had the same problems up to now: (1) they have been unstable and difficult to fly (touchy throttles, tough to trim, easily disrupted by slight air currents); (2) they have been fragile (doesn't take many crashes before rotors break or gears fail); (3) the combination of 1 and 2 make playing with them more frustrating than enjoyable above relegate them to the pile of misfit toys in a hurry.
The Jada Battle Machines Air vs. Land set corrects all of these issues. Our 6 year-old is the primary pilot, and he was able to get comfortable flying the helicopter in a matter of 10 or 20 minutes. At that point he moved from what he now calls "basic" flying to "intermediate" -- navigating stairwells, skimming along close to walls/ceilings/floors/furniture, and trying to land on small objects. He has so much fun flying the helicopter that he has actually not heavily used the battle features yet and still loves the toy (note: he does use the cannon in conjunction with other non-RC toys -- the rotation, noises, lights, etc of the cannon make it a good fit with unrelated toys).
There are a couple of potential cons with the set: (1) It is very chatty. Turning on the controller results in a voice loudly declaring something like "Ready for battle". Likewise, it loudly announces the beginning and completion of charge cycles. The feedback is great, but can be a bit much for others in the area that are attempting to do something else. (2) You do have to take care not to bend pens on the helicopter's charge connector. They aren't abnormally weak, but the plastic connector provides only limited protection should you (or a child) attempt to plug in the charger the wrong way around. Luckily the pens are pretty durable, but you will want to make sure all your "pilots" understand how the connector works. (3) The box pictures a truck along with the set; while it clearly states that the truck is an add-on accessory our 6-year-old kept looking for it. The package contains everything intended but you will want to make sure your kids' expectations are clear.
Potential cons included, I am still highly impressed and will readily recommend this to friends. Better yet, my kids have logged hours of flight time in a small number of days and they are still excited by it and recommend it to their friends.

"THE TRUTH"
This toy is amazing it has a gyro control helicopter that works better than most other helicopters that cost over $30 and the base works perfect and has a auto-pilot feature so you can play by your self. The base also works with battle machines cars.

Teaching RC to my nephewJan 21, 2012
By S-Rex I bought this as a Christmas present for my brother (31 years old). He has a 2 year old son that is dexterous enough to control some play-station games. Not well but he has fun anyway. I figured they could play together my brother flying the helicopter and my nephew shooting him down with the turret. The product takes about 40 minutes to charge About the same time as an Italian dinner, and then the shooting begins! I would say my nephew wins about half the time. The fun lasts just long enough that his attention span is drained with the batteries. Very cool.
